He Shall Be Called

DAY 5 OF 7

He Shall Be Called | Day 5

Life is full of change; it’s a universal truth. Humans generally don’t like change unless it’s our idea. Christmas shines a bright light on what has changed since last Christmas – the gains, the losses, the hurts, the joys, and everything in between. It can cause a person to feel unstable and wish for something that will last and not change.

The fourth title that Christ is given in Isaiah 9:6 is that of the Everlasting Father. Jesus is the rock that is stable through all time. He is the unshakable One. No matter what comes or goes, He remains the same through all time. This is important to remember because we can get our focus on all the things around us that are shaking. We are called to live our lives by faith, not sight, as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:7. We can have this type of steadfast faith in Christ because He has always been and will always be. His word will last forever.

Knowing this gives those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior a stability that the world doesn’t understand. Our relationship with Immanuel, the Everlasting Father, will not end. Our God is beyond human comprehension. His love for us is amazing.

As you contemplate the idea of an Everlasting Father, you could become disheartened about how great and mighty He is and how small you are, but His love for you is the thing that draws us closer; it beckons us to pursue a deeper relationship with Him. It’s because of that love that we praise Him and love Him.

As you look to your holidays, don’t allow the shaking of the world around you to cause you to forget that Christ is the Everlasting Father Who will not be shaken and is forever. Remind yourself in those moments that Jesus is not surprised at anything that comes your way. He is the Rock of your salvation.

Application:

As you think about the Christmas season, what areas do you need Jesus to be your Everlasting Father? Look at the areas in your life that are shaking; it could be a relationship, a job, a dream, a promise, or something entirely different. What is a practical and intentional way you could engage our Everlasting Father this Christmas season? It could be that when you feel shaking, you have a few Bible verses that you read over and over again to stabilize your emotions and mind. It could be choosing not to dwell on things that make you feel unstable in life and instead consciously focusing on the everlasting love of Christ.
