He Shall Be Called

DAY 3 OF 7

He Shall Be Called | Day 3

We live in a world where everyone seems to be a Dear Abby, or we can find advice for anything on our favorite online search engine. How do I handle this or that? What should I do here or there, left or right, up or down? There is a plethora of individuals and organizations that know what’s best for you and your life. During the Christmas season, it seems that even more people are trying to give you counsel or advice on what’s best in this season. Ask them, and they will guide you to the best Christmas ever. Just do what they say and buy what they tell you to. It sounds too good to be true. Most of the time, it’s kind of like that gift you just couldn’t wait for, and once you got it, it wasn’t all the commercial made it out to be. We need real counsel that will transcend the newest Christmas fad. We need Jesus.

The second title that Jesus is given in Isaiah 9:6 is that of Counselor. Immanuel, God with us, is our Counselor, Advisor, and Guide through it all, not just the Christmas season. Instead of going to the nearest blog or TV talk show, what would it be like to seek Christ’s counsel in the matter intentionally? Yes, we would all like clear signs or a dream telling us what to do and when, without putting effort into the process. However, the effort helps us draw closer to Him in these moments. To hear, we need to get in tune with Jesus and not just with our favorite Christmas radio station.

One of the issues is that we are bombarded with the fullness of the season, and it’s hard to make the time to seek Christ’s expectations, and honestly, we look for what’s easy. But when we seek the Lord, His direction will show us the way. If you are saved, you have the Holy Spirit in your life, and He is the Counselor, Advocate, and Guide that will show you the way you need to go.

To simplify this idea even more, we need a counselor to help us know the plan and the purpose. The issue is that we are human and not God. Still, God does have a plan for your life and a purpose. The key is that the plan and purpose of your Christmas season and beyond are found only in a relationship with Christ being your Guide and the One Who directs your steps.

So, wouldn’t it be wise to seek the Lord this Christmas season for advice, guidance, and counsel since He knows what is best for you and your life? Unlike the world which, at best, is just guessing.

Application:

In what ways do you need to have the Lord counsel you, give you advice, and guide you this Christmas season? Is it where to spend Christmas, what parties to attend? Are you overextending yourself to appease others and neglecting your soul and health? What is one practical thing you could do to seek the counsel of the Lord intentionally? Maybe it’s to pray over your Christmas calendar, to ask what gifts should be given this year, or what unhealthy expectations there are in your life and which ones are healthy.
