The Promise

DAY 8 OF 42

Elijah Challenges the False Prophets

Listen to "Elijah Challenges the False Prophets":

Reflect

We have more in common with the Israelites than we care to admit. We all worship gods other than the true God. And when troubles come, we cling even more to our false gods. For some, it’s comfort, escapism or addiction. For others, it’s perfectionism or determination to make it through a difficult situation. And as our desperation increases, we “pray” to our gods louder and louder.

There are millions of other gods to worship. But there is only one true God. He’s greater than any trial we face. He’s all-powerful, and, even better — He is good. He longs for us to turn to Him, to repent from following other gods. Sometimes, as it was with Israel, that’s the whole point of the drought we’re going through!

● What is your go-to god? Why do you think you are tempted to turn to it?

● Describe a time when God allowed a drought or test in your life. How did you respond?

● Spend time talking to God about the other gods in your life and ask Him to show you how to surrender complete control to Him.
