DAY 14 OF 42

Jesus, Simon and the Sinful Woman

Listen to "Jesus, Simon and the Sinful Woman":

Reflect

Simon compared himself to the immoral woman and gave himself a higher score. How often we’re caught, like Simon, comparing ourselves to others with smug self-righteousness. Our sins may not seem obvious to others, yet what about immoral thoughts, greed, and bad habits that stick like gum to the bottom of our shoes?

This story depicts extravagant love. The woman lavished love on Jesus and He commended her, validating her worth and dignity. Her simple yet moving gifts far surpassed the prestigious Simon’s hospitality.

Jesus showed his care for Simon by telling a compelling story that pinpointed Simon’s lack of love. If we follow this woman’s example — putting aside our pride, kneeling at His feet, weeping over our sin and giving Him our most precious possessions — we can demonstrate our love for our Savior. Jesus said the woman’s love for Him exceeded Simon’s because of her faith.

● Take a moment to confess your sinful thoughts, words and actions.

● Respond to Jesus’ forgiveness in your own extravagant way.
