Following Jesus

When we say yes to Jesus, we are invited to be a follower of Jesus. You’ve maybe heard it called a disciple. A disciple is like a student or an apprentice. A person who walks with their master learns their ways of living and doing. Jesus invites you to do just that. To follow him. To become his student and spend time with him. To become like him and do the things he did.

And the best thing, Jesus doesn’t take the posture of a ruthless master who rules over you, but a friend who constantly encourages you to live an extraordinary life! It’s all about being in close relationship with him. So, what does that look like? Well, when we read the stories of Jesus in the Bible, we are given Jesus’ example of how to live like him. We see how Jesus saw the world, how Jesus saw God and talked to Him. You see Jesus reading the Word, spending time with his friends, and showing people God’s amazing love! The Bible is where we can see an example of Jesus; a person to follow. And thankfully, we’re not alone when we follow Jesus. When you said yes to Jesus, you were gifted with the Spirit of God. Called the Holy Spirit, he is a person who can help us live the way Jesus lives. He is with us to guide us and lead us to live like Jesus. He helps you live out your new nature as someone who was once dead but is now fully alive!

To help get started, Jesus made it very clear what this whole thing ought to look like. He said love God more than anyone or anything and love your neighbour as yourself. Learning to live like that is a lifelong journey, but the great thing is, He is on it with you, helping every step of the way. PRAYER

Jesus, help me to follow you today. Help me to let go of my old ways of doing things when I was only living for myself, and help me to live more like you. I can’t do that by myself very well, and I need your love and strength to guide me.
