Following JesusSample
What does this mean?
So, you recently made the decision to say Yes to Jesus. But what does that mean? What does it really mean to say ‘Yes to Jesus’?
Well, firstly it’s saying Yes to Jesus’ Good News Story. A story that has transformed me and people right across the world. It’s so good in fact, that it’s transformed history! The story starts with God. A good God who created you and me and a peaceful world. He created us to be in an intimate relationship with Him. A partnership glued together with love.
However, as you’ve probably experienced, there’s a problem. A peaceful, perfect world with God is not our experience. That paradise was lost when we doubted God and chose to trust ourselves rather than him. In our self-reliance, we rejected God’s rule. We call that sin, and it separates us from God. And now, in our disconnect, things begin to fall apart. Evil damages every part of the human experience. We have distorted desires and fractured relationships. We experience sickness, suffering, and death.
But God had a plan. A plan to rescue and restore us back to him. And God’s plan crescendos with Jesus. Jesus who is God in flesh and bone. He shows us who God truly is. He shows us that God is not distant and angry or apathetic towards the world. Instead, He demonstrates to us how willing he is to step into our messy story and do something.
For you and I, Jesus took up the consequences of our disobedience and distance from God and willingly died on the cross. Through Jesus’ death, he took our death sentence for our sin. He condemned evil and gave us forgiveness. Through his resurrection, he conquered death's power over us and has given us eternal life in its place.
And now, you’re in a moment where your story collided with God’s story. A moment to decide to make Jesus’ Good News story your good news story. To believe that through Jesus you have been set free from sin and death and become who you were always meant to be. So, when you say Yes to Jesus, you are receiving Jesus’ gift of eternal life and forgiveness and a constant invitation to be extravagantly loved by God. A love that takes you from death to life!
