Have you ever done something that conflicted with what you believe? Like, you know it is not the best practice to lie to your parents, but you did anyway to cover up for a mistake you were scared of getting in trouble for? We may mess up like that, but as we grow in our faith, we come to see faith is not just the things we believe, but how we apply those beliefs to our choices and actions everyday. James 1:22–25 reminds us of the importance of integrity, of not just believing something, but letting those beliefs shape how we interact with the world. This passage talks about not just listening to what God is teaching you, but putting those things into action.
Integrity is doing the right thing consistently over time. We know what the right thing is by listening to God would have us do and applying it to our situations. This means living out our faith in all areas of our lives — at school, with friends that may not go to church, and in our families.
Integrity is essential because it reflects our character and impacts how others see us. When we act with integrity, we build trust and respect with those around us and show that we are growing in our faith.
