Kendrea & The Dream Thief

DAY 4 OF 7

"WHO DO YOU RUN TO WHEN YOU’RE SCARED?”

The first week of school seemed to go by quickly but Kendrea did not mind because it was her favorite day of the week, Friday. Friday meant cheese pizza, a movie and no school on Saturday. It also meant she could sleep in for as long as she wanted the next morning, but that's not quite how it happened on this particular Friday night. While Kendrea was sleeping, she had a scary dream that made her wake up. She thought if she opened her eyes and closed them again that dream would not come back. Boy, was she wrong. She kept waking up because she wanted this dream to stop, but it just came back over and over again. She was scarred awake for good and ran to her dad.

When she ran down the stairs towards her parents' room she noticed her dad walking back from the kitchen. She ran to him crying and as he embraced her he asked," Why aren't you sleep?" Kendrea said, "I'm scared". "Why are you scared?", her father asked. "There is a mean raccoon trying to trick me into believing he is nice and my friend, but he only wants to steal all of my strawberries. Every time I try and share my strawberries with him he tries to snatch them all. I see his claws come out and his clothes turn color. First his clothes are white, but turn black every time he reaches for my strawberries".

Devotional
As God's children, many of us get scared. When we are scared we sometimes feel afraid and frightful. There are many situations that can cause us to feel this way such as: sleeping without a night lamp, talking in-front of the class, or having a scary dream.

Take Kendrea for example: when she felt scared she ran to her father for comfort and also let him know why she felt afraid. When her father spoke to her he encouraged her by telling her what was on the inside of her and the type of strength she had. In the same way, God encourages us through his word, strengthens us through Jesus and gives us his power through the Holy Spirit. God equips us with all we need to conquer all of the challenges we go through too.

Remember, always run to God when you’re scared.
