Kendrea & The Dream Thief Sample
“LIFT UP NOT DOWN”
During the class restroom break, Kendrea saw how sad Honee was. Kendrea did not know what to say but she expressed a gesture of kindness towards Honee because she too knew what it felt like to struggle in a subject. During the summer before school started; Kendrea's parents put her in summer school so that she could learn how to tell time and know the difference between a nickle and a dime in advance for the following school year. Kendrea had difficulty, though the sizes of the two coins were different she often mistook the nickle to be ten cents and the dime for five cents. This upset her teacher greatly, but with the help of her family, she eventually learned to tell time and count money correctly. Kendrea knew exactly what Honee was going through and also knew being kind would ease Honee's pain.
Devotional
As God’s children, we have a “spirit of kindness and goodness.” This means that God has given us what we need to encourage and be kind to one another. Take Kendrea for example, when she saw Honee crying, she showed genuine kindness towards Honee because she could relate to how Honee felt during that moment. In the same way, the children of God can express that same affection and more with others. We all go through ups and down and we can use our Christ-like attitude, behavior and experiences in our lives to encourage others who encounter the same situations we have gone through ourselves.
Also, Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus is telling us that he can relate with what we are going through and encourages us to be of good cheer. Just like Jesus, we are to do the same thing; relate with one another and encourage each other through the Word and life of Jesus Christ.
In summary, as brothers and sisters in Christ we have the ability to lift each other up and not down using the Word of God.
