Presence requires proximity. It’s hard to be present in someone’s life without getting close in some way. Of course, being close isn’t limited to just physical distance. In reality, when we are close to someone, it means we’ve made an active effort and investment of our time to become a part of their world on a regular basis. When we spend time with someone—especially time that has a purpose and intention—that time helps to build a relationship. So, what does it look like to be intentional with our time and presence? It can look like sitting with a friend who just received some bad news or celebrating a coworker who just received a promotion. It can be as simple as making sure to remember the birthdays of each member of a small group or as meaningful as checking in with someone who has lost a loved one. Just as this verse reminds us, as Christians we are called to celebrate and mourn with one another. We are called to show up continually in each other’s lives, for the good and the bad.
Think about someone in your life who you want to invest your time in. What are some ways that you can show up and be present with them this week?

About this Plan
An influencer has the ability to change our minds or make us try something new. And while we may think of an influencer as someone with millions of followers, the reality is we don’t need a big audience to be an influencer. In fact, God calls each one of us to be an influencer for good. In this devotional, we’ll see all the ways God has used people—even the unexpected people—to have an amazing influence on others.
