DAVID – MAKE THE MOST OF WHERE YOU ARE
Everyone has days when they feel unseen. Maybe you’ve been picked last for a team, didn’t get a promotion at work, or are surrounded by people who seem stronger and smarter than you.
You’re not alone. Even though David was the only man in the Bible God called a man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22), he was still overlooked by others, including his own family. To his brothers, David was young — maybe even annoying. And to his father, he was a simple shepherd boy.
When Samuel set out to find Israel’s next king, God reminded him that He “does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7b)
Samuel’s search led him to David’s house. Do you think he found David in his room, pouting because no one thought he was special? Nope! David was out in the fields, faithfully looking after his family’s sheep. He embraced where he was, and did everything to the best of his ability.
God saw a king’s heart in David, and later, he became the king of Israel. Jesus would also come from David’s family!
People may underestimate us, but God sees our heart. We can trust Him to put us in the right places — all we have to do is make the most of where He has us now!
Talk about it: Have you ever felt overlooked or unappreciated? What does it look like to just make the most of where you are when that happens?
Act on it: Challenge yourself to be like David this week. Do your best wherever you are, and trust God to take care of the rest!
Pray about it: Lord, thank You for seeing my heart. Help me remember You have a purpose for me and can do amazing things through even the smallest person — give me strength to do my best where You have me now. In Jesus’ name, amen.
About this Plan
In the Bible, God didn’t just choose royalty and great heroes to do His will; He also worked wonders through the lives of shepherd boys, wives, orphans, and servants. God can use anyone for His will! Read through this plan with your family to discover it’s not your position in life that determines how God will work through you — it’s the position of your heart.
