DAY 3 OF 5

HANNAH – KNOW GOD WILL PROVIDE WHAT YOU NEED

Have you ever wanted something so badly you prayed and asked God for it?

More than anything, Hannah wanted a son. So, she made God a promise: “...if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life.” (1 Samuel 1:11b) She was telling God if He would give her a son, she would make sure that son served God.

God answered Hannah’s prayers, and she had a son named Samuel. Later, Hannah kept her promise and took him to live with a priest named Eli. Even though Hannah wouldn’t raise him herself, knowing God had given her Samuel was enough.

But here’s what’s interesting: God didn’t just give Hannah a son. Samuel became one of the greatest priests and prophets in the Bible. His birth fulfilled not only Hannah’s desire for a child, but also Israel’s need for a strong leader.

God doesn’t always answer prayers the way we expect, and He doesn’t always give us what we want. But He will give us what we need. When we wait, pray, and believe He’ll come through, we’ll see Him provide for us in ways we never imagined.

Talk about it: What does it look like to trust God for what we need while knowing He might not give us what we want?

Act on it: What have you been praying for? As you keep praying for it, tell God you trust Him to give you what you need (not what you want) in His perfect timing.

Pray about it: Lord, thank you for answering my prayers and giving me what I need. Help me rely on You and remember You always hear me. Give me the faith to trust You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

About this Plan

eKidz Family Devotional: Ordinary People, Extraordinary God

In the Bible, God didn’t just choose royalty and great heroes to do His will; He also worked wonders through the lives of shepherd boys, wives, orphans, and servants. God can use anyone for His will! Read through this plan with your family to discover it’s not your position in life that determines how God will work through you — it’s the position of your heart.
