Living Wise - Sermon on the MountSample
How much time do we spend worrying about things in our life? We worry about what might happen in the future, what clothes we’re wearing and what we might be having for dinner. We worry about being popular, what others think of us and how we can seem smart to our classmates. What Kingdom wisdom does Jesus give us? He says, “Put God’s kingdom first. Do what he wants you to do. Then all those things will also be given to you. So don’t worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Instead of worry, we can focus our time, thoughts and energy on putting God first in our lives and doing what He wants us to do.
Worry is something everyone can face at different times. We might be worried or anxious about doing something new we haven’t done before or we worry about what might happen in the future. It’s ok to feel that way. We don’t have to deal with our worries all on our own. It’s good to talk to someone and it’s important that you are and feel safe. You can talk to your friends, an adult that you trust, your leaders or teachers and you can talk to God. Your friends and adults that you trust can help you and you can also pray together, trust God and read His Word. Ask God to help you. If it matters to you, it matters to God. He cares about the big things, the small things and everything in between.
Dear God,
Thank You that You are always with us. We want to turn all our worries over to You. Help us to have peace and know that no matter what happens we can trust in You. Help our fears to be calmed. Help us to grow in our confidence. Whatever it is right now that we are worried or anxious about we choose today to give those worries to You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
