Through the Bible: ActsSample
Obedient To Only God
But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard."
Acts 4:19-20 (ESV)
The same Peter who had cowardly denied Jesus three times now stood boldly in front of the Church elders and rulers and accused them of crucifying Jesus. It’s because Peter had been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. The solution to fear is the power of the Holy Spirit!
When the religious leaders demanded Peter and John to stop preaching about Jesus, Peter and John answered them with the reply in our verse for today. The leaders wanted them to disobey God, but they chose to follow Him and be a witness of what they saw and heard as this was what Jesus had asked them to do.
When others command us to disobey God, we must obey God rather than man. Fear of being rejected by others can easily cause us to compromise being a witness. Instead, we should look to the Holy Spirit, who is our helper and counsellor to give us the words, wisdom and courage to testify about Jesus.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, may Your Spirit always be with us. Help us to be the living testimony for You. Let us fear no man, give us the words, wisdom and courage to testify about You. We pray all these in Your mighty name, Amen!
About this Plan
This book answers the question; ‘What’s next after believing in Jesus?’ Continuing the Gospel of Luke, Acts narrates the birth and development of the early church, and how the Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to spread the Gospel. Although it ends abruptly with Paul’s imprisonment in Rome, it leaves room for readers to extend the chapters, by following the footsteps of the early church with our remaining time on earth.
