Through the Bible: ActsSample
God Chose Surprising Candidates
But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name."
Acts 9:15-16 (ESV)
Acts 8 described how a surprising candidate converted to Christ through the supernatural leading of the Lord. It was an Ethiopian eunuch whom God sent Philip to meet. God said to Philip, "Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." (Acts 8:26). In chapter 9, we see another surprise candidate – Saul converted from being a persecutor to an apostle and was known as Paul from then on. By seeing these surprising candidates get picked and filled with the Spirit, it reminds us that we should not rely on ourselves but on God, obeying His voice to be ready to rise and go wherever He called us to, since no one is a lost cause.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You so much for picking us. We want to rise up and pick up Your vision and mission, to spread Your word and love. Lord, please help us to rely on You to do all things by devoting ourselves to You. We pray all these in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
About this Plan
This book answers the question; ‘What’s next after believing in Jesus?’ Continuing the Gospel of Luke, Acts narrates the birth and development of the early church, and how the Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to spread the Gospel. Although it ends abruptly with Paul’s imprisonment in Rome, it leaves room for readers to extend the chapters, by following the footsteps of the early church with our remaining time on earth.
