God Orders Our Steps
Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.”
Acts 12:6-8 (ESV)
Peter was in prison awaiting his execution scheduled for the following day. Yet he was asleep, resting in the Father’s arms, while chained to two prison guards at the wrists. He did not love his life so much that he was afraid of death (Rev 12:11).This gave Peter the peace to finish his course with joy and fulfil the ministry he had received from the Lord. Yet God who sits in the heavens was laughing.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (Psalm 37:23). God sent an angel who woke Peter, freed him from his chains and led him out of the prison to go and fulfil his destiny. Alleluia!
Prayer
Father, we look to You in this hour and we believe You have amazing destinies for us, Your people to fulfil. We ask You to lift up our heads and hearts, and understand that You order our steps, so we keep our eyes and ears fixed on You to lead us. Amen.
About this Plan
This book answers the question; ‘What’s next after believing in Jesus?’ Continuing the Gospel of Luke, Acts narrates the birth and development of the early church, and how the Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to spread the Gospel. Although it ends abruptly with Paul’s imprisonment in Rome, it leaves room for readers to extend the chapters, by following the footsteps of the early church with our remaining time on earth.
