Fear God Only

How many voices do we hear every day? From the moment we wake up, we are hearing others' voices, opinions, and ideas. We hear SO MANY voices on our TVs, on the internet, from our teachers, from our friends, in text messages, on the news... So many voices all day every day and so many opinions. Every day, we are surrounded by people with many opinions about life. Not only that, but they also have so many opinions about us. People and their opinions can make us really anxious. “What do they think about me?” “What if they don't like me?” “What if I make them mad?” “What if I’m not what they think I should be?” We start to become fearful of what people think and how we are viewed in the eyes of others.

Verse 7 says, “it is You alone who are to be feared”. The psalmist writes about all of the ways God is triumphant, rules over, and judges the Earth. There are many people of influence in the world, people with opinions, and people who aren't afraid to share those opinions. If you are on social media or spend any time on the internet, you could probably name a few "influencers" who share their opinions about sports, fashion, make up, movies, and video games. People can quickly become internet famous for having opinions! As the Psalm says, their names are great, but the name above all names is God. As important as those people might seem, His mercy, goodness, and wisdom is over all. He will have the last word. We don’t have to fear people or situations! Our deepest love and awe and GOOD fear should be for God who cares for us deeply.

GO DEEP: Is there anyone whose opinion of you is keeping you from being free to be yourself? Ask God to help you only look to Him, to only fear Him, and to have His perspective concerning other people's opinions of you.
