Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
Restore Us
Home restoration and renovation programs are so popular these days. It’s so fun to see the before and after photos! A really run-down home with mould growing everywhere and walls falling down can become a beautiful place for a family to live that is clean and warm and full of life! Or how about animal rescue videos? Many of us are drawn to videos where we see a stray who is sad, cold, and lonely. But then we get to watch as they are rescued and begin to live happy, full, and healthy lives in a home with a family! We all love a great restoration story!
In Psalm 80, the cry for restoration comes three times in verses 3, 7 and 19. The psalmist is deeply seeking the Lord for full restoration. The reality is that we all need God's restoration in our lives. He offers it freely. He literally died to give it to us. Sometimes we feel that it’s easier to stay stuck in our old ways, but the truth is that when we allow Him to restore every part of our lives, we can have freedom and live fully (John 10:10). When we cry out to the Father like the psalmist does, knowing we can be restored and saved from all anything which comes against us, we can have great joy, hope and peace.
GO DEEP: Ask God if there is an area of your life which needs His restoration. Remember that repentance means "turning around". God may ask you to turn your face to Him and away from things that hurt you. Spend a short time thinking through your before and after with Jesus. What was life like before you knew Him? What has He saved you from. Thank Him for all He has done for you.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
