Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
Dwell
Today we will hear another True Story:
“There was a time a few years ago when God was moving our family to another country, and it was all taking so much longer than we expected. We felt very unsettled and couldn’t relax at all. The verses from this Psalm were such a comfort to us at the time. The psalmist describes how birds make nests near His altar (v. 3) and about dwelling in His house. As we read those verses, we realised that as long as we are close to the Father, in His presence, we are home. Even when we pass through hard times and situations (v. 6), we can keep going and leave pools of encouragement for others to drink from when they pass through the same situations.
Continuing to think about our place of dwelling and our true home, the psalmist says that he’d rather work at the door of God's house than actually live in the homes of the wicked. He knows so deeply where real life is found. He knows that the one who dwells with and trusts God is a blessed person. Sometimes it seems the easiest option in tough times is to dwell in the tent of the wicked or to go our own way. It might seem less painful to ignore the voice of God. To truly live, experience blessing, and know real life, we need to choose to dwell with near His altar. Our friends and family need to dwell with Him, too, and we get to share the hope of real life with them. What a privilege to lead people home!”
GO DEEP: Do you feel far from God today? Is He calling you back to dwell with Him? Do you feel you are dwelling in the house of the wicked? Ask God for wisdom in knowing how to walk away from those situations and dwell with Him.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
