Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
Royalty
Have you ever looked at a royal family and wondered what it feels like to be part of it? What is it like to have people constantly serving you? What is it like to belong to a lineage that goes back many centuries? What is it like to have YOUR family be part of the history books? It must feel so crazy to know that everyone wants to look at you and know everything about you! Being born into royalty or into an esteemed family in any country might give you advantages other people don’t have. People born into royal families walk into rooms and know they belong. They know everyone wants to talk to them. It is possible, in a tiny way, we might have that feeling for a day! How cool would it be if you won an award and everybody stopped to celebrate you? What if everybody wanted photos with you?!
When this Psalm was written, being born into the city of God was an honour for any Jew. But the real honour wasn’t the heritage or the city, it was that God had established the city above others. "This one and that one were born in her, and the Most High himself will establish her.” Today, the greatest honour and thing to celebrate is to be born into God's family and called a child of God. Our spiritual rebirth is eternal and gives us an identity which can never be taken away, not even if we move countries and never go back to where we were born, ever again. Our new identity in Jesus gives us security, hope, real life, and confidence. With this, we can walk into a room knowing we are loved and celebrated by the God of the universe. We are eternal royalty, and we have status and confidence in Him.
GO DEEP: Ask God to show you some of His characteristics that you carry into a room when you enter it. Choose to walk in the confidence of who you are with Him. Ask God what that would look like for you today.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
