Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
God is Near
Playing paintball is a blast, especially when you are the one shooting everyone with paint! BUT, if all of a sudden everyone turns on you and you are being shot, the game is not really fun anymore. Being surrounded and attacked isn't something anyone looks forward to, whether you are playing a game or in real life. Psalm 83 paints a picture of Israel being hemmed in on all sides by its enemies. The Israelites are being attacked and can’t find a way to escape. Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever been surrounded with big problems and felt so alone that not even friends or family can help you cope or work it out?
Verse 1 is a sentiment we have probably all felt at some point in our lives: “God, do not remain silent. Do not turn a deaf ear. Do not stand aloof!” When we feel this way, it’s important to know the truth that God never leaves us or forsakes us. He’s not standing far away from you. He's not turning His face or His ear from you. When you feel under attack, He is near. His power is stronger than anything that could ever try to come against you. When you feel anxious or alone, He is close to you. His voice is available to comfort you and give you peace. The psalmist knows that God can change the course of the enemy’s plans, and he is asking Him to act quickly. You, too, can bring your fears, your insecurities, your sadness, and the areas you know are under attack to God. He cares, and He will act on your behalf.
GO DEEP: Bring your fears and areas of attack to God today. He is near, and He wants to help you. Ask Him if there are any lies you are believing. Ask Him for His truth to replace those lies.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
