Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
Pass It On!
Ready for another True Story?
"A couple of years ago, I was dropping one of my sons off at his school. My three-year-old daughter was with me, and it was a very busy day. My head was a little stressed out. I dropped him off at school and drove back to the house, which was maybe a 10 minute drive away. When I got home, my husband asked me where my daughter was. Why was he asking that? I said "here with you!" NO! I had, in fact, left her at the school! The teachers had called to say that she was sitting with my son in his class. I raced back and picked her up. She was so happy that she got to be at the big school, and I have never been more embarrassed in my life!”
Forgetting things is a part of life. We all lose things (some more than others!!). We forget our lunch for school (some people forget their kids!!), or we might forget our keys to get back into the house. What’s the worst thing you have forgotten? The psalmist is urging us not to forget, but to remember the ways and the works of God and pass them on to generations. He wants us to teach our children so the next generation will know God's word and put their trust in God. There are people who would love to share their experiences and knowledge of God with you. There are small group leaders who want to walk with you and encourage you, who want to pass on God's goodness to the next generation. Being in community is so important. As a teen, it is crucial to find peers to grow with through reading scripture and experience what it is like to serve God together. It’s great to choose wise adults to speak into your life. This Psalm declares the works and wonders of God and how merciful God is, even when people turn away from Him. He is passing on the stories of God so they’re not forgotten. We can do that too!
GO DEEP: Are you in a group with other Christians your age? Do you have a leader who is wise and who will walk with you and encourage you? If not, you can contact the TeenStreet office in your area or country, and they can help you to find a good leader. If you do have a leader, encourage them and thank them for all they do for you! God might be asking you to be a leader and walk with somebody younger than you! You have so much to offer to the next generation, too!
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
