Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
The Voice of the Lord
A familiar voice brings comfort and safety. Maybe as a young child you found yourself lost somewhere - in a supermarket for example - until the familiar sound of a voice you recognised called your name. Throughout the Psalms, we are reminded that words have power. With your voice you can speak joy and life or sorrow and death. See how David describes the voice of the Lord in verses 3-9. The voice of the Lord is powerful. It’s a thunderous voice, a voice that can break trees. It’s majestic. It shakes the desert, and it covers the waters. The people’s response to hearing this voice is crying “glory” (v. 9).
God speaks in many ways, and one of the most common ways is through His Word. Do you long to hear the voice of God today? Open your Bible and let Him speak to your heart. Verse 11 says that “the Lord blesses His people with peace.” Let His words fill your mind and heart with peace. Take heart that the Lord sits on the throne as King. The earth is His and everything in it. May the Lord bless you with peace today.
GO DEEP: Invite the Lord to speak to you today. Is there anything distracting you? Fears? Doubts? Sin? Give them up to God and open your Bible. Let His words speak to your heart.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
