Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample

Quiet Your Soul
What type of atmosphere calms and quiets your soul? Do you love to sit near water? Maybe you live near an ocean or a bubbling stream. Do you love to gaze at the mountains or into a vast wooded area? Is it a desert evening or the song of a bird? Maybe the buzz of a busy city or the bright lights bring you peace.
In this Psalm, David has found peace and hope. He has put aside things that might make him too proud or boastful and has chosen not to worry himself with things that might frustrate or discourage him. He has taken a quiet moment for his soul to sit with the Father. God actually commands us to carve out spaces like this where we commit to putting off work and worry and focus fully on worship and rest. This time is called Sabbath.
GO DEEP: Do you observe a Sabbath? If yes, what does that look like for you? If no, can you commit to observing a Sabbath this week? What if you spent an hour or two (or five!) this week putting aside work and worry and focusing fully on worship and rest?
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
