Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
Pray in a New Way
This Psalm has a lot going on. First, the Israelites are reminding God how dedicated David was to find a place for God to dwell. Next, they are repeating the prophecy that one of David's descendants will sit upon the throne (Jesus!!). Lastly, they are declaring God's promises over His chosen people.
Let's be honest: sometimes we sit down for our quiet time with the Father, and we don't even know where to begin. There isn't a secret or special formula for talking to God, but this Psalm shows us an easy way to organise our thoughts when we aren't sure where to start. First: Sit with the Father and remind Him of something from your past. You could tell Him about a promise you made Him and have kept. You could talk about a time you served someone else or volunteered with your church. Talk to Him about what happened and how it made you feel.
Next: Repeat something God has promised. It could be very specific to you or it could be something like, "You promised to forgive my sins." Thank Him for the promise and tell Him how it affects your life.
Last: Declare God's promises over your life and the lives of your family, friends, and nation.
GO DEEP: Which one verse can you meditate on today? Is it a verse where the Israelites are reminding, repeating promises, or declaring and worshipping? Spend today focusing on one way to connect with the Father.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
