Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
A Shocking Truth
Here's the thing: We don't always have happy or joyful things to tell God. Sometimes we are so mad that we spend our entire quiet time complaining about what someone else did. Let's even take it one step further...have you ever felt such a strong emotion that you asked God to shame or hurt someone for you? That feels pretty strong, but guess what, nothing we could feel or say could shock the Father. He gets it when we are mad or disappointed, and we can see right here in Psalm 129 that God isn't shocked when we tell Him exactly how we feel. As children of the Most High, we have direct access to tell God exactly how we're feeling! Emotions aren't bad. Even Jesus felt anger. It is how we react because of our emotions that can cause sin.
GO DEEP: Is there something you are holding on to that you need to talk to God about? Spend time journaling or speaking to God about it right now. No matter how strong it feels or how weird it might seem to tell God you are mad, give it a try. He can handle it. But don't stop there. Ask Him what He wants you to do with your strong emotion. It might be enough to just share it with Him! If not, don't move on until you feel some closure or ask your small group leader or a trusted adult to help you talk to God about it.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
