A House Built By God

Picture the homes in your community. If you are part of the TeenStreet community, you know that there are teens from all over the world reading this very Psalm with you. Seriously, stop and think about that! Teens from Asia, Australia, North, Central, and South America, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean are pausing to picture what the houses look like in their towns and villages. Some of us live in apartment buildings, some in one- or two- storey houses, some in one- or two-room homes, and share homes with friends or family. Even the materials we use to build the houses are different. In some parts of the world, we use concrete and steel; in some we use wood or mud; and in others brick or stone. No matter how elaborate or simple, your home could not have been built without the help and knowledge of someone in charge.

Re-read verse 1. The verse is a metaphor for something more than just a physical house. The truth is, without the master Builder and Creator, our lives cannot stand firm. Without God's skilful and knowledgeable guidance, anything we try to do to make our lives into how WE want them will end in vain. God has a plan for you. He knew what He was doing when He built you. He blesses us because He wants to, not because we have done something to deserve it.

GO DEEP: Are you trying to "build your own house"? In other words, are you working against God to create a life you want instead of asking Him what He is already doing? Spend some time today asking God this question: "God, how are you building my life and how can I work to build it alongside you?"
