Speaking to Yourself

Have you ever caught yourself having a full discourse with yourself? Lost yourself in a debate with an imaginary friend in your mind?! Berating yourself as you regret yesterdays mistakes? Singing your own praises but you’re the only one listening? Singing in the shower? Shouting when you think you’re alone? YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS PSALM! This Psalm affirms the power of speaking to yourself.

David begins by telling his soul - “Praise the Lord, O my soul” - three times during the course of the Psalm David tells himself to sing! He even takes it one step further and says - “ALL my inmost being praise the Lord!” Praise will change the atmosphere and situations around us - there are days when worship is easy, where our emotions will overflow in praise and overtake our minds - but there are other days where we have to CHOOSE to praise, and it begins with our minds declaring “PRAISE the Lord, O my soul!”

GO DEEP: Vs 1-6: Look at all of the reasons David gives us to choose praise - take a minute to not just read them (using your mind) but pray through them with thanks (using your heart and soul).
Vs 7-18: David uses the words that God spoke to Moses to turn and praise Him! God revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 33-34 and declared who He was. Use these verses about God to praise Him. List all the things God has revealed about Himself and thank Him for them.
Vs 11-12: Words to hold on to! Words to memorise! Words to write down and think about all day! Is it possible to get to a point where God’s love and forgiveness run out?! How does David describe the size of God's love and forgiveness?!
