Through the Bible: Isaiah

DAY 11 OF 19

Comfort for God's People

A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert  a highway for our God.  Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level,  the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
Isaiah 40:3-5 (NIV)

In Isaiah 38, we first read of Hezekiah’s earnest prayer to God for his health and how God saved him from despair and gave him more than he asked for – another 15 years of life. We may think Hezekiah would faithfully serve God after the miracle but rather we see how he fell in his pride, showing off his wealth in front of Merodach-Baladan in Chapter 39. He was warned by Isaiah of God’s punishment. But God came back to the people, and showed them favour once again, regardless of how their king and people failed Him. God led His people back from Babylon and gave them hope. God still gives us His hope today.

Riding through the roller coaster of these 3 chapters remind us how vulnerable we are actually, in the face of challenges of the flesh, be it pride, greed or whatever earthly situation. The unchanging favour of God is the only certainty we should cling to, so we would not easily fall into our own earthly nature.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for being the unchanging loving one we may cling to. In those times we may fall and be blinded by our own sins, You are always there and remind us who we should turn to. In Jesus's name we pray, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Isaiah

The book of Isaiah, which contains 66 chapters, is called “the Bible in miniature.” The first 39 chapters summarise the Old Testament which addresses the judgement of sins and the hope in God. The other 27 chapters foreshadow the New Testament which addresses the Gospel of Jesus and how God’s people will inherit His kingdom victoriously. If you want to have a Bible overview, this is the to-go book.
