Humanity continued to spiral. Things got worse and worse.
But God didn’t give up on humanity. He continued to pursue us and give us chance after chance after chance.
God stepped in and made a promise to a man named Abram (or Abraham). He told Abraham that he would be blessed, that he would have so many descendants it will be impossible to count them, and that his family would be a blessing to the whole earth.
Fast forward to the New Testament. In the opening of Matthew, as he is setting the stage for Jesus, he tells us Jesus is a descendant of Abraham. And then gives us a long list of names—a genealogy—that shows us how Jesus’s family traces its roots all the way back to Abraham.
Now, it may be tempting to skip over this part because, let’s be real, it’s a bit boring.
However, this point is so so important, and it reminds us of this truth about God: God always keeps his promises.
The things that God promised to Abraham a long, long time ago were coming true in Jesus.
Jesus came to be a blessing to the entire world.
Question: What promises of God have you seen come true?
About this Plan
About this plan: Christmas is a big deal. It’s the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus. If we aren’t careful, Christmas becomes just another holiday, and we miss the significance of it. In this series, we look forward to Christmas by looking at the story of the Bible to remind us why Christmas matters.
