This is one of the most famous verses in all of the Bible, but there are so many reminders of God’s goodness and faithfulness in this passage.
God loved the world. God loves you—a lot. That truth alone is amazing. The God who created the entire world cares about you.
He loves you so much that he gave. Because of sin, our relationship with God was broken. But, God didn’t give up on us. Not only is God loving, but God is also generous. He gave Jesus to us to rescue us.
John goes on to say everyone who believes. God didn’t just come for one person, one family, or a certain group of people. God came for everyone. That includes you.
And finally, if we believe in Jesus, we are promised eternal life. We can have a relationship with God because of what Jesus did. We have hope. Even though life may not always look the way we’d like it to, we have a relationship with God and know that someday we will spend eternity with him.
This is what we celebrate at Christmas time—a loving, generous God who sent Jesus to this world to rescue us from sin to give us hope and a future.
Question: Which of these truths did you need reminded of today? Why?

About this Plan

About this plan: Christmas is a big deal. It’s the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus. If we aren’t careful, Christmas becomes just another holiday, and we miss the significance of it. In this series, we look forward to Christmas by looking at the story of the Bible to remind us why Christmas matters.
