There's Hope For Today

DAY 90 OF 366

The lion is a master stalker. He doesn’t dash in for a quick kill. The very balance of nature gives the hunted and the hunter a fair chance, so the lion watches and waits.

Once the herd is consolidated, he creeps into the strike zone. Suddenly, he rises up and lopes easily toward his prey. The herd is immediately alerted and moves, almost as one, away from the threat. The lion is watching, still watching for the weak one that lags behind, or the arrogant young speedster that separates himself from the herd. This roaming, seeking, killing machine is programmed to single out prey rather than charge the herd.

Peter chose the lion to give believers a visual fix on how the devil works. He is moving, plotting, and always watching. He waits, he roars, he intimidates, all for the purpose of singling out the weak or the prideful. His great and simple strategy is to separate brothers and sisters – to drive a wedge between friends. When we are isolated we are vulnerable. When we’ve been cut off, or cut out, we’re about to be cut down. Jesus’ prayer for the church is that they would be one – kept in perfect unity.

Jesus was praying for our safety. Stay in fellowship by all means. There’s a stalker on the loose.
