There's Hope For Today

DAY 95 OF 366

“If you need anything, just ask.” I don’t doubt the sincerity of my host, but I know that the offer has limitations.

What if I were to say, “Well, now that you ask, I need a thousand dollars.” Or what if I were to ask for a car, or maybe a few selections from the family jewelry box? How rude! Most of us offer the polite answer, “Oh, I think I have everything I need” – but what if the offer were unlimited in its scope and offered with perfect sincerity?

What if your host was a mega-billionaire with a generous reputation? What if he could deliver anything from a fur coat to a Ferrari? What if he pushed the issue by saying, “Ask! Please ask! What shall I give you?” It happened, you know. It happened to a king named Solomon at Gibeon. The offer came from God Himself, and Solomon found himself staring down the barrel of a loaded promise. “Lucky Solomon,” you say? How about “Lucky you … and lucky me?”

God wants us to ask Him for blessings. The Old Testament reveals the giving nature of God. The New Testament commands us to ask great things. God wants us to approach Him as a generous Father. Walk with me for a few days and learn more of a God who loves to be asked.
