There's Hope For Today

DAY 96 OF 366

Remember the big Earth Summit in Rio? Do you think the delegates were eco-sensitive?

Harpers Magazine reported that the Earth Summit crowd generated seven tons of trash ... per day!

Hypocrisy can really sneak up on you. I’ll always remember Coach Hogan preaching the four virtues of physical conditioning to our sophomore class. I just couldn’t “receive the truth” for coach’s beach-ball belly and overstressed coaching pants. It looked to me like the four virtues would wreck your health, if coach was any indicator.

Hypocrites do a lot of damage in the church. While a nitpicker can find some inconsistency in almost any situation, sincere seekers are often put off their search by compromised churchgoers.

Jesus was gentle and kind when it came to broken down prostitutes and top-skimming tax collectors, but he was relentless with hypocritical spiritual leaders. He called them snakes, hypocrites, blind guides and fools.

Spiritual leadership requires integrity. Be certain that your “talk” and your “walk” are more than distant cousins. They need to be twins if we will have a “one-faced” witness in a “two-faced” world.
