There's Hope For TodaySample
From an earthly point of view it was the deadest day in history. All creation was looking for Jesus from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8). They longed for him, God’s Anointed One, Messiah.
Now Messiah was taken down from a cross, dead. They wanted to put him on a throne, but now they put him in a borrowed tomb. Hope wailed in mourning as its light was extinguished. Jesus is dead. The tomb is sealed. His prediction of resurrection is forgotten. His disciples are devastated. It’s the deadest day in history, but only from an earthly point of view.
In Hades, that place where the rich man lifted up his eyes and called across a gulf to a beggar named Lazarus … in Hades a voice is heard proclaiming victory. To those tormented, it is the sealing of their doom, and to the righteous dead, it is graduation day. Jesus said, “It is finished” on the cross.
Jesus proclaimed His victory in Hades, taking the righteous dead into his presence forever. Now, on the deadest day in history, Jesus awaits the Father’s appointed hour to play out the greatest moment in all history past and yet to come. An empty cross and an emptied Hell are about to be joined by an empty tomb (1 Peter 3:19, 4:6).
