There's Hope For Today

DAY 86 OF 366

If you will leave behind anything lasting when you have departed this life, you had better start giving now. No monuments are raised to celebrate what a man took from life, or hoarded without pity. No day graces the calendar to pay homage the “wanna be” virtue of selfishness.

If you will be remembered, it will be for what you gave of your time, talent, passion, strength, and wisdom. If you’ll not give, you’ll be forgotten before the first obligatory flower wilts on your grave. What a man sacrifices these days to make his fortune. It’s all about long hours, long distance, long shots, and long odds of keeping a family intact. When he has finally made it, he finds himself alone at the top. When he finally admits his error, his kids only want to know him like an uncle and his ex-wives only want the alimony.

Be careful in the mad rush to possess – you’ll one day miss the hungry years. It is estimated that over his lifetime, John Wesley gave away nearly $150,000. When he died he left behind a well-worn frock coat, two silver teaspoons and the Methodist Church.

Don’t worry so much now that your net worth demands respect. Net worth is never really determined until we are weighed on heaven’s scales.
