There's Hope For TodaySample
The Bible is a book of words; words inspired by God – somehow invested with life-changing power. These words bring comfort in sorrow, hope in despair, and light in darkness. These words can change lives, break addictions, heal diseases, and offer direction. God’s words correct, confirm, instruct, affirm, and reveal. They are likened to a sword, a light, bread, and shelter. To search this book of words from cover to cover for its best word is a daunting task.
From Genesis to Revelation we find unparalleled brilliance, perfect wisdom and relevance. Were you to pin me down for the Bible’s best word today, I would make a case for the word, “Finished.” The English language requires three words to carry the essence of what Jesus spoke in one word from the cross: “It is finished.” Charles Spurgeon called this text “An ocean of meaning in a drop of language.” While we give proper attention to the resurrection, and rightfully so, we should linger a while at John 19:30. Christ is the “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev. 13:8).
Everything He did to save us from our sins led to this singular moment in time when Jesus lifted up His voice as He lifted us to God and cried, “Finished!”
