There's Hope For TodaySample
Because of the evil means employed to take possession of Naboth’s tiny vineyard, the satisfaction Ahab enjoyed was short-lived. God was already sending judgment on the lips of Elijah.
Ahab had just completed his first inspection when he heard the squeaking of the rusty gate. What followed was a prophecy so certain and devastating that it caused Ahab to humble his heart and beg God to relent. It can safely be said that Ahab never enjoyed his ill-gotten vineyard. Illegitimate gains are like an anchor dropped from inside a wooden ship; the anchor holds the bottom but holes the ship.
A middle-aged couple sat in my office pouring out their marital struggles. The more they revealed, the more I suspected a powerful undercurrent in their relationship. Finally, in tears she said, “Pastor, you need to know that we got together through an affair. We wrecked two homes in the process – I guess we’re reaping what we have sown.” I couldn’t argue the point. In spite of a long line of counselors, books, and seminars – they are still struggling to make it work. The thrill of the chase has been replaced by the weariness of guilt.
If it’s not right, getting what you want will leave you not wanting what you get.
