There's Hope For Today

DAY 77 OF 366

Have you come to a standstill in your spiritual walk?

Do you feel as though you are standing in a box canyon, cut off from your future? You’re not alone.

I’ve heard it a hundred times, “Pastor, I can’t seem to find that place to which God is calling me.” In some cases the issue is clear, such as disobedience, or immaturity. In some cases I must admit a total consternation as to why such a gifted brother or sister is not moving forward. Sometimes the answer is quite clear – we just don’t want to face it. Andre Gide cut to the chase when he said, “You cannot discover new lands unless you leave shore for a very long time.”

It is often our level of comfort and aversion to risk that binds us to mediocrity. When Jesus called the disciples, He did not offer them a guarantee of so many nights at home. To follow Christ was to leave shore for a very long time. Andrew left his work with John the Baptist. Peter left his nets. Matthew left his tax business. James left his activism. These men changed the world, but they would not have been heard of again if they had stayed safely in Galilee.

Could it be that the excitement you’ve lost in your spiritual quest lies just beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone?
