Consider The LiliesSample
Distractions
In the 1900s, people used to wish each other “Godspeed”— which meant they hoped the journey would be blessed. I wouldn’t be surprised if we started saying, “Google speed.” Many things that can distract us from reaching our God-given goals seem to come at us from every direction. They’re everywhere! Interruptions that seem trivial can have huge implications. Many of us live in a constant, low-grade state of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). We’re experiencing a subtle longing for something better or more interesting than what we’re presently experiencing. Even an image that depicts a beautiful scene can move us from contentment to anxiety as we puzzle over how we, too, can achieve a picture-perfect life and an inspiring mantra to live by.
We were not created to live someone else’s life. Once we cross over into desiring someone else’s life, we’ve left the moment God has placed us in. Do the lilies do this? No, friends, they grow and bloom where they are planted.
Do you feel anxious believing that you are missing out?
Temptation and Counterattack
Temptation is lurking around every corner to take our eyes off of Jesus and the path He has set before us. In order to counter this attack by the enemy, let’s pray specifically against distractions, beginning with a thankful heart for what God has already done. The promises His already fulfilled, the gifts He’s already given. God never fails us. When distractions come our way in whatever form, they are usually not good. Looking to the Lord, helps us decipher what is from Him and what’s not. Listen carefully!
Holy Spirit Power
When distractions come, let’s remember that we have something far more powerful than a smartphone. We have resurrection power! Remember what Paul said in 2 Timothy 1:7 (niv): “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” Let’s not be timid, sisters, but powerful! Let’s ask the Lord for His guidance, and then exhibit self-discipline to avoid distractions.
Consider This
Reflect, refresh and refocus ~ Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and discernment on the unnecessary distractions in your life. Once you believe you can see some of the clutter obstructing your path, take action by getting rid of it.
