DAY 141 OF 365

Righteousness, Right Living, Right Standing

Romans 2:12-13, 29
“All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous…a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not the written code…”

Why does obedience to God’s law bring righteousness?

The law was given by God to reveal God’s ways and his nature. To be in right relationship with God we must live according to his ways. However, keeping the law is impossible. We all sin and break God’s law. The sinless Lord Jesus was the only person who kept the law. It was his death on our behalf that has paid the penalty for our sin and made us righteous before God. Jesus is our righteousness. It is the Holy Spirit sent to every follower of Jesus at their conversion, who empowers us to die to self and the self-centered life and live for Jesus and his ways. This circumcision of the heart and daily infilling of the Spirit (if we ask for it) empowers us to live a righteous life before God. It is God’s grace and kindness which lead us to repentance and the awareness of our need of God. The Lord Jesus is our sufficiency!

Lord Jesus, I humble myself before you and thank you for your sacrifice and your Spirit to live for you.
