The Building of the Temple
1 Kings 6:7
“In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.”
Why were no hammers or chisels heard at the temple site during construction?
“‘It’s not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord.” So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. The construction of the temple foreshadows the building of Christ’s body, the new spiritual house that God is building of living stones (1 Peter 2:5). This kingdom of God is not built on outer sacrifices of meat or drink, but righteousness, peace and joy. The kingdom of God is within us. The work is silent and unseen, but the fruit or evidence that we are being shaped or molded into the image of Christ is his righteousness, peace and joy on display for all to see.
Lord Jesus, I offer my life to you again today for your shaping, molding and building, for your glory.
