Wise Children
1 Kings 5:7
“When Hiram heard Solomon’s message, he was greatly pleased and said, ‘Praise be to the Lord today, for he has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation.’”
It is rare for political succession within a family to result in an heir with greater wisdom than his father.
As a young king, Solomon was under scrutiny by the surrounding leaders.
What direction would he take Israel?
Would he use his power to expand his territory and would he rule his neighbors harshly?
Or would he strengthen peace and trust among the countries surrounding Israel?
Solomon’s initial focus on building a temple for worship signaled that he was a man of peace. His treaties and marriage alliances with the surrounding countries signaled that he was a man of love, not war. Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and is rooted in humility. When our sons and daughters grow up in the fear of the Lord with humility, they will know wisdom. May that be the legacy of our families.
Lord Jesus, you have blessed me with children. May they know you and live with wisdom all their days, for your glory.
