DAY 121 OF 365

Holding the Ground

1 Chronicles 14:8, 10
“When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went out to meet them…so David inquired of God: ‘Shall I go and attack the Philistines?’…The Lord answered him, ‘Go, I will hand them over to you.’”

The enemy of our souls opposes both the anointing of God on his servants, and leadership in the kingdom of God. David’s response to the attack of the enemy was to go on the offensive, not to retreat. David attacked the Philistines, not in his own strength, but in complete dependency on God. David’s strength was in the Lord. We too are called to be “strong in the Lord” (Ephesians 6:10). God will give us a battle plan for the temptations and assignments of the enemy against our lives if we inquire of the Lord. Applying the victory of Christ’s death and resurrection over sin, to the battles in our lives, requires knowledge of our forgiveness and authority in Christ. We are not victims, but overcomers through Christ. Learning how to resist the enemy is essential if we are to possess our inheritance in Christ’s kingdom and live on mission with Jesus.

Lord Jesus, you have all authority and you have given me a clear mission. Thank you for your anointing by the Spirit, and for the capacity to resist the enemy in my life, my family and my community. I will stand firm in the battle.
