Listening To The Word - 1 Year

DAY 120 OF 365

Acceptable Worship

2 Samuel 6:1-3, 5, 7
“David again brought together out of Israel chosen men, thirty thousand in all…to bring up from there the ark of God…They set the ark of God on a new cart…David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with songs and with harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals. The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down and he died there beside the ark of God.”

The size of our worship gatherings, the beauty of the sanctuary and the effort we put into singing and making melodies, do not compensate for sin or for approaching God with our own righteousness. The Philistines transported the ark with a new cart and with oxen never before yoked. God’s instructions to Moses however, were clear: the ark must be carried by Levites using poles. No animal must transport the glory and presence of the living God.

In what ways are we attempting to carry the presence of the Lord in unclean vessels?

We have become the temple of the living God. It is the blood of Christ alone which cleanses us from all sin. Our righteousness and our pride in worship performance will be rejected by a holy God; we must approach God Almighty in humility through faith in the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

Lord God, may my worship be in spirit and in truth this day, for your glory.
