Lent: With One VoiceSample
YOUR FAITH’S WORST ENEMY
Perhaps you have caught a cold or flu in the past few months of Hong Kong’s sickly season. Isn’t it amazing that such a microscopic virus could make your body ache and sweat? Such is the disease of unbelief, as told through Jesus’s warning about leaven, the Jewish symbol of corruption.
Unbelief spreads wildly once it starts. Unbelief was amongst the Pharisees when they continued to ask Jesus for a miraculous sign. Now, unbelief was also amongst the disciples when they failed to understand that Jesus was more than a powerful rabbi. Like the way we are careful to wear masks on a crowded bus, so Jesus warns us to be careful to guard against contagious unbelief.
Unbelief has many forms today – the focus on do’s and don’ts more than on what Christ has done, doubts about the Bible, prayerlessness, worry, and workaholism, to name a few. You will find unbelief within the church as well as outside too. Only Christ Himself working through the Bible, prayer, worship, fellowship, and your service, will keep you immune from infection.
FOR REFLECTION
• What forms of unbelief have been threatening to infect you today?
• Are you in the company of those who seem to hinder your faith?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help my unbelief. Because of my lack of faith, I cling to Your cross for forgiveness, deliverance, and call upon Your Holy Spirit for growth. I do not want to doubt, worry, and stress-out anymore. Protect me from the temptation to trust in myself more than in You.

About this Plan
A Lent devotional material created by the pastors of International Churches of Hong Kong, a guide for decisions, a vision of the future and a challenge to lifestyle. It is a subversive material that undermines contemporary assumptions and defies social norms. It is all of this because it is the Word of God as recorded by Mark and others, and therefore is about the transformation of people and communities.
