Lent: With One VoiceSample
JESUS MEETS US WHERE WE ARE
This is such an intriguing healing story. Jesus takes the man away from the crowd, puts His fingers in the man’s ears, spits, touches the man’s tongue and commands the man not to tell anyone what has happened. Why does Jesus do this? The deaf man couldn’t hear Jesus until he was healed. So, Jesus communicated in a way the man could understand. I think Jesus gave the man what he needed. Jesus met the man where he was at and communicated in a way that was meaningful.
Jesus does the same for us today. The deaf man may have despised his non-working ears and voice, but Christ steps right into this pain to bring healing. We all have parts of ourselves that need God’s healing touch, whether physical, emotional, spiritual or relational. Never underestimate how our compassionate God may step in to meet you where you’re at.
FOR REFLECTION
• Are there areas in your life that need Christ’s touch?
• Where do you want Jesus to meet you today?
PRAYER
Lord, You are a God of compassion who meets me where I am. You know what I need. I pray to be open to the ways You are at work in my life. Amen.

About this Plan
A Lent devotional material created by the pastors of International Churches of Hong Kong, a guide for decisions, a vision of the future and a challenge to lifestyle. It is a subversive material that undermines contemporary assumptions and defies social norms. It is all of this because it is the Word of God as recorded by Mark and others, and therefore is about the transformation of people and communities.
