Lent: With One VoiceSample
THE GREAT HEALER?
Many years ago, I was in the hospital with an infection that damaged my heart. Ten months later, I had to have heart surgery to fix the damage that this infection caused. I spent much time asking God, ‘Why?’
I had to come to terms with the fact that God’s work in my life is sometime incomplete. Day by day, I seek Him out to find out what the next step is in His plan for me…and this journey never ends.
In today’s passage, it seems that Jesus has to heal a man twice, since the first ‘healing’ didn’t apparently work properly. Medical research has shown, however, that people who have been blind from birth and receive their sight, take time to actually understand what they are seeing. Modern doctors call this ‘Post Blind Syndrome’ (yes, you can look it up!). Jesus didn’t have to heal again, He had to heal the next illness.
FOR REFLECTION
• Consider something that God has done in your life. Ask yourself what good it has brought for you, and what challenges it has opened up.
• Make a decision to follow God in all He has for you – even when sometimes that step may make you more vulnerable, and more dependent on God’s grace. Often this is where He wants us to be.
PRAYER
Father, I apologize for the times when I have doubted Your power, because I see my own weakness. Forgive me, Lord, and let me see Your power and guidance not once, but always in my life.

About this Plan
A Lent devotional material created by the pastors of International Churches of Hong Kong, a guide for decisions, a vision of the future and a challenge to lifestyle. It is a subversive material that undermines contemporary assumptions and defies social norms. It is all of this because it is the Word of God as recorded by Mark and others, and therefore is about the transformation of people and communities.
