DAY 52 OF 366

Let us Approach

Reading: Heb.4:14-5:10

Key Verse: “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” 4:16

The book of Hebrews revolves around details of Jewish history and religion. According to the Old Testament only the high priest could enter the presence of God’s throne room through a thick curtain. Even then it was only once a year when He presented the blood of a sacrificial animal to obtain atonement for peoples sins. This symbolism is fulfilled by Jesus our great high priest who presented His own blood once and forever.

The high priest was appointed as one of the people to represent all of the people. He was subject to failings just like them and was therefore able to sympathise with their human frailty. Because Jesus our great high priest is fully human and was tempted as we are, He can fully sympathise with our weaknesses. Because Jesus has torn down the curtain by His one perfect offering we can now approach God’s throne with a confidence that we are wanted and welcomed (Heb.10:19-23). Now instead of only knowing God through the third person of a priest we can know Him personally for ourselves and ask for any help we need, confident that we will receive His grace given answer.

Prayer: Thank you Lord I can approach you confidently and know You personally
