Never too Old!

Reading: Luke 2:25-28

Key Verse: “Anna ... was very old”

In a series of incidents after Jesus birth we look today at what happened when after eight days He was dedicated in the Temple in accordance with Jewish law. Here we meet two old people whose encounters with Jesus have been immortalised in Luke’s gospel. The demographics of Hillsong is a church with a preponderance of young people. Although we rejoice in the numbers of faithful young people in an increasingly sceptical world we need to remember that the church is a family so it includes both young and old. Anna and Simeon were of advanced years yet they spoke so powerfully about Jesus that we still read their words today two thousand years later.

Not only was Anna old, but as a woman she could have been looked down upon by the younger male Temple priests. But here, Anna herself was especially commended for her faithful life of worship and prayer. Hillsong is not a young person’s church but a church for everyone from whatever background and whatever age. You are never too young to play an important part and you are certainly never too old!

Prayer: Thank You Father that Your church is a family where even I am wanted, welcomed and can work in Your kingdom
